JAMAICA, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) Throughout the month of April, yorkathletics.com will highlight those who have given us everything they had on the playing fields with senior features for each team's 2020-21 senior class. With the cancellation of sports for the 2020-21 academic year, York athletics will celebrate and recognize our seniors online and on social media with our #YorkSeniorDay. Today, head coach
Anastasia Bitis celebrates
Cami Melson as the sole member of the 2020-21 women's basketball senior class for her dedication to York athletics.
As a native of Carrollton, Georgia, Melson graduated from Carrollton High School. Prior to enrolling at York, Melson attended Southern Union State Community College and the University of West Georgia. Despite playing just one season as a Cardinal, Melson made a great impact on the program. In 2019-20, Melson started in 18 of 22 games to average 4.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per contest. She produced a career-high 15 points to lead York to a 61-38 CUNYAC home win against Medgar Evers College (Jan. 17, 2020). Melson registered career highs of 13 rebounds, five assists and two blocks against Mount Holyoke College (Jan. 2, 2020) and also nabbed four steals versus Bryn Athyn College (Nov. 26, 2019). As a team captain, Melson was a huge part of the program's first 11-win campaign since the 2009-10 season. Melson's role also helped guide the Cardinals to their first postseason win since 2016 with a 57-52 victory at No. 4 seeded Baruch College (Feb. 22, 2020). As a senior, Melson served as a key resource for the Student-Athlete Mentor (SAMs) program and also held the position of Student Government Association (SGA) Senator. Melson will be graduating with a degree in journalism.
