About Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC)

York College’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is a committee consisting of student-athletes dedicated in representing the best of the York College student-athlete experience under the NCAA. One of the main missions for SAAC is enhancing the total student-athlete image by promoting opportunities and protecting student-athlete welfare. As SAAC students, the committee is dedicated to obtaining excellence in academics and athletics, sportsmanship, and community service to promote a positive student-athlete image.

Bylaws
York College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is intended to serve the following purposes:
  1. Act as a cooperative committee between the administration and student-athletes, which can influence the student-athletes with a voice in the Athletic Department decision-making process.
  2. Alert student-athletes to issues which concern them.
  3. Encourage any involvement of student-athletes on and off campus and build a sense of community within the athletics program.
  4. Provide a location for a seminar to discuss any NCAA legislation.
  5. Promote a positive student-athlete image on campus.
  6. Build a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletic teams.

Functions of campus SAACs:
  • Promote communication between athletics administration and student-athletes.
  • Disseminate information.
  • Provide feedback and insight into athletics department issues.
  • Generate a student-athlete voice within the campus athletics department formulation of policies.
  • Build a sense of community within the athletics program involving all athletics teams.
  • Solicit student-athlete responses to proposed conference and NCAA legislation.
  • Organize community service efforts.
  • Create a vehicle for student-athlete representation on campus-wide committees (e.g., student government).
  • Promote a positive student-athlete image on campus.

Functions of the National SAAC:
  • Generate a student-athlete voice within the NCAA structure.
  • Solicit student-athlete response to proposed NCAA legislation.
  • Recommend potential NCAA legislation.
  • Review, react and comment to the governance structure on legislation, activities and subjects of interest.
  • Actively participate in the administrative process of athletics programs and the NCAA.
  • Promote a positive student-athlete image.
Though the focus of campus SAAC is intended to be more parochial in nature, communication among campus and national SAAC offers student-athletes the opportunity to shape the landscape of intercollegiate athletics.
