FLUSHING, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball garnered a pair of conference honors Thursday as the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) released its 2025 All-Star Team awards. Senior
Alicia Gumbs received an All-Star Second Team nod while
Madison Plaza landed on the Sportsmanship Team.
Displaying her talents, Gumbs averaged 20.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 steals, and 2.8 assists per game and shot 67.2 percent (123-of-183) from the free-throw line while playing a tough 39.6 minutes each contest. Consistently attracting double teams, she scored 49.6 percent of the team's points and accumulated 44.3 percent of the squad's assists. Reaching the 20-point mark 11 times, the guard earned one CUNYAC Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection and four MBWA weekly laurels. Facing Centenary University (Dec. 11), she became the 11th member in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau, and her 1,316 career point total is good enough for third among Cardinal women.
Per the CUNYAC hierarchy, the Queens native places highly in minutes per game (39.6, 1st), points per game (4th), steals per game (5th), free throws made (123, 4th), and field goals made (139, 6th). Among all Division III players, the speedy guard leads the nation in minutes, is 21st in points, and 40th in steals per game. At the charity stripe, Gumbs has swished home the 24th most free throws. Gumbs' all-star selection is her second straight and the program's sixth in the past four seasons.
Hailing from Brooklyn, Plaza played in all 21 games this season and averaged 39.2 minutes per game, ranking third in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Statistical Rankings Summary. Additionally, the guard averaged a career-best 2.0 assists per game and poured home a career-best 19 points in a home contest against Hunter College (Jan. 24). This is Plaza's second-consecutive CUNYAC Women's Basketball Sportsmanship Team distinction.
Madison exemplifies dedication and leadership. Her commitment to York College and to the program is seen daily. She is a great athlete and extremely active in different programs provided by the campus community. Madison is the definition of student-athlete and a prime example of an athlete maximizing her Division III experience."-Head Coach Jason Marshall
