Cherub Autar '24 has been nominated for the 2024 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Autar is one of 627 female college athletes who were nominated, which is awarded to graduating female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service, and leadership throughout their college careers.
"Being recognized as a NCAA Woman of the Year nominee for York College is a profound honor. It symbolizes not only my athletic achievements but also my commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community service. This recognition affirms the dedication and hard work I have invested in every aspect of my college experience, and I hope to be a medium of encouragement to my fellow student-athletes." - expressed Autar
A record-breaking 619 student-athletes were nominated by NCAA member schools for the 2023 Woman of the Year award. This year's nominees represent a diverse set of well-rounded student-athletes with 24 different sports, combining for a 3.75 grade-point average across all three NCAA divisions. Within that nomination pool, 292 competed in Division I, 110 in Division II and 225 in Division III. Conference-wide, Autar is one of five CUNYAC student-athletes who were celebrated as NCAA Woman of the Year nominees. Â
Academically, Autar was a three-time Dean's List selection, landed on the CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll on two occasions, on her way to graduating with a 3.681 grade-point average as a marketing major. Autar, a two-year women's volleyball contributor at York, was named a 2024 CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Honorable Mention selection as one of the conference's best and brightest student-athletes, who not only excel in athletics, but succeed in the classroom as well. She was also recognized as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team® selection during her senior year.Â
Hailing from Georgetown, Guyana, Autar competed in 35 matches and played 110 sets during her career, leading the program with 144 assists and finishing second with 151 digs since 2022. In 2023, Autar set a career-high with 90 digs, including scooping up a personal-best 21 on Senior Night against Yeshiva University (Nov. 6).Â
Conference offices will now select up to two nominees from the institutional pool to move forward in the process. Then, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee identifies the Top 30 – 10 from each division – and from there selects three finalists from each division. From the nine finalists, the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then selects the NCAA Woman of the Year, who is named during an awards presentation at the NCAA Convention.
Since 1991, the NCAA Woman of the Year program has recognized graduating student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership throughout their college careers. Learn more about the award program, next steps, and previous winners by visiting
