www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's volleyball challenged the Lehman College Lightning (4-12, 2-3 CUNYAC) in the third set of this morning's CUNYAC matchup, but ultimately fell in straight sets (25-4, 25-17, 33-31) at APEX Arena.
First Set Breakdown
- Four consecutive service aces from Alanis Vasquez capped off a 15-1 Lehman start.
- A kill by Simranjit Kaur gave York its first point at 23-3, before the Lightning sealed a 25-4 result.
Second Set Breakdown
- A pair of kills by Samantha Panameno helped the Cardinals to a 6-5 edge.
- Ayah Hamdaoui's smackdown finished off a 5-2 burst to give Lehman an 11-8 lead.
- Ahead by two (14-12), the Lightning utilized four kills to spark an 8-2 stretch, extending their margin to eight (22-14).
- Kills by Madison Plaza and Jaymie Mateo got the deficit to seven (24-17) before an attack error closed out the second frame.
Third Set Breakdown
- Zia Lefebvre's spike knotted the score at one.
- Vasquez once again controlled the serve battle, as her three aces buoyed a 7-0 surge to give Lehman an 8-1 advantage.
- York charged back, claiming the following five points to make it 8-6.
- A subsequent 4-0 burst leveled the score at 10.
- Trailing by 14-13, a pair of kills from Chamiya Foy spearheaded a 7-0 blitz for the Cardinals to lead 20-14.
- The Lightning responded with a 7-1 burst to make it a 22-21 scoreline.
- A pair of Lehman attack errors gave York three set points (24-21).
- Battling back, the Lightning claimed the next three points to tie it up.
- In the tiebreaker, York took a one-point edge on six occasions; however, Lehman managed to even up the frame each time.
- Vismairely Fernandez's ace clinched out the match at 33-31.
Leading the Cardinals
- Lefebvre contributed on both ends with a team-best eight kills and 18 digs.
- Kaur chipped in with three aces and the team's lone ace.
- Plaza and Foy both added three kills.
- Panameno (7) and Mateo (7) combined for 14 kills. Panameno orchestrated the offense with 16 assists.
For New Lehman
- Vasquez controlled all facets of the match with eight kills, nine digs, and a match-leading nine aces.
- Sahiam Lora leveled Vasquez's total of eight kills to go along with two aces.
- Cheyenne Gray-Taitt generated seven kills and eight digs.
- Hamdaoui paced the attack with 26 assists.
Inside the Box Score
York produced 20 kills on 85 attacks for a -.012 percentage. The Lightning recorded 38 kills on 98 swings. Additionally, Lehman tallied more points (55-21), assists (33-19), aces (17-1), and digs (43-39).
