Stanley Sanchez is an Occupational Therapy major at York College and a student-athlete with the men’s soccer and volleyball programs

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) With the emphasis on amplifying the student-athlete experience, York College shines a weekly spotlight on a featured Cardinal to provide a look inside their bio. Stanley Sanchez of men's soccer and volleyball takes center stage in this week's feature.

Arriving at York from Aviation High School in Long Island City, New York, the Queens native has contributed two seasons to the men's soccer and volleyball teams.

Debuting for the soccer team in 2022, Sanchez started in all 13 contests from midfield, appearing in 1,097 minutes. He recorded his first career assist against Sarah Lawrence College (Sept. 19) after a fantastic long ball played to forward Jaden Brown. The following match, Sanchez notched his first goal after slotting home a penalty against Hunter College (Sept. 28). Ending the season on a high note, the midfielder scored his first game-winning goal with a 50th-minute strike against CCNY (Nov. 9). Overall, Sanchez produced a team-high two assists to go along with three goals, 21 shots, and 12 shots on target, which were all second-highest on the team. For his efforts, he garnered a 2022 CUNYAC Men's Soccer All-Star (Second Team) selection and the 2022 York College Men's Soccer Most Outstanding Award.

Coming into the 2023 campaign as a 2023 CUNYAC Preseason Player to Watch, Sanchez continued to show the midfield workrate that found success in 2022. Stepping onto the pitch in eight games, he received 611 minutes of action, taking 11 shots (5 SOG) and helping the Cardinals to a pair of draws.

Playing his first season as a member of the volleyball team in 2023, Sanchez appeared in 16 matches and 48 sets. Playing a lot of the campaign as an outside hitter, he ranked third on the team with 16 kills and 151 total attacks to go along with a team-high 70 kills. The Queens native reached double-digit attacks on seven occasions, and he recorded a career-best four kills against Lehman College (Mar. 9). Transitioning to a setter for the final few matches, Sanchez accumulated 27 assists, ranking second on the team. His efforts were rewarded with the 2023 York College Men's Volleyball Most Outstanding Award.

Entering the 2024 season as a CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Preseason Player to Watch, Sanchez balled out in the setter role, distributing 347 assists and scooping up 86 digs. Tallying 20+ assists in eight bouts, he recorded a career-high 43 dimes in a four-set victory against Sarah Lawrence College (Apr. 4). Per the CUNYAC hierarchy, Sanchez ranks sixth in assists p/set (5.34), good enough for 96th among all Division III players.

Not only has Sanchez found success athletically, but he has also thrived in the classroom, landing on the CUNYAC Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll three times and claiming the 2022-23 York College Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.
