Sangay Yoezer of men's tennis takes center stage in this week's feature.
Debuting for the tennis program last campaign, Yoezer played in all 10 of York's singles and doubles matches. A fixture on the No. 1 singles court, he played eight contests at that level, totaling seven games. The sophomore competed once on the No. 2 singles court, taking five games (2-6, 3-6) against Lehman College's Richie Magaribi. In his lone appearance on the No. 3 singles court, Yoezer won a thrilling super tiebreaker (6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4) against Nikita Knecht of Sarah Lawrence. On the No. 1 court with partner
Jagvir Hoonjan for all doubles matchups, they captured seven games throughout the season, winning a season-high of three at Saint Elizabeth (Apr. 28). For his efforts at the highest difficulty level, Yoezer earned the 2023 York College Men's Tennis Coaches Award.
Continuing on the No. 1 singles and doubles courts in 2024, the Queens native competed in 10 matchups on the circuit's highest difficulty. On the singles level, he claimed six games, with a season-best three of the coming versus Lehman College (Apr. 23). Pairing with
Altenor Molien, the duo grabbed 11 games this campaign, reaching the two-game threshold on three occasions.Â
