Mike Massone brings a wealth of experience to York College as a former NCAA Division I head coach

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College announces the appointment of Mike Massone as Cardinals' head men's and women's cross country and indoor and outdoor track & field coach.  Massone arrives at York with 17 years of combined coaching experience at the NCAA Division I and III levels.

"I am greatly pleased to join the York College athletic and academic communities and am looking forward to build upon the existing solid foundation of quality student-athletes," said Massone.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Massone to the Cardinal family.  During his time at Saint Peter's University, Mike proved himself as a program-builder.  With his tremendous passion for the sport, we look forward to him leading our student-athletes to add to the proud tradition of York cross country and track & field," - said assistant director of athletics for external relations/sports information director Harris Rappel.

Most recently, Massone served as assistant track & field coach at New York University during the 2020 indoor season, working primarily with the jumpers.

Prior to his stint at NYU, Massone served as an assistant men's and women's track & field coach at Fordham University from 2015-19, working mainly with the sprinters, jumpers, throwers, and multi-events athletes.  He contributed to the Rams advancing both teams to the NCAA Outdoor Regionals in 2018 and 2019. Under his guidance, the Fordham sprinters and jumpers established eight new school records.

Massone, a 2015 inductee to the Saint Peter's University Hall of Fame, led the Peacocks from 2005-16 as head cross country and track & field coach.  In his eight seasons as the Peacocks' track and field head coach, Massone was named the MAAC Coach of the Year six times.  Massone guided the women's track & field team to three-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Indoor Track & Field Championships and back-to-back MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  Under his leadership, Massone produced three all-america selections at Saint Peter's and 101 conference champions.  The women's team swept the indoor and outdoor championships in 2011-12 to become just the second MAAC team to ever repeat as both indoor and outdoor champions after capturing the two titles in 2010-11 as well as winning the 2013 Indoor Championship.  The Peacock men finished in third place and had six individual champions in both the indoor and outdoor seasons for 2011-12.  During the 2012 outdoor season, Saint Peter's had their first ever NCAA finalist, as Isaiah Harris qualified for the NCAA Championships after three qualifiers competed at the NCAA Preliminaries.

Massone's coaching career began in 1978 as the head field events coach at Christ the King High School. As a collegian, he competed as a sprinter, and decathlete at St. Francis College. He is a former New York State Powerlifting Champion at both 181 and 198 lbs, and in 1985, held the ADFPA record in the squat with a 711 lb lift.

Hailing from Brooklyn, Massone graduated from St. Francis in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in physical education, and in 1989, he earned a master's degree from NYU in physical education and educational administration.  Massone is a former physical education teacher and is also a member of the National Throws Coaches.
