FLUSHING, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball gave back to the community Saturday afternoon by volunteering in a celebration of National Girls & Women In Sports Day with NYC Parks.
Held at the Al Oerter Recreation Center in Flushing, the event aimed to inspire and encourage young female athletes and to promote the importance of women's participation in sports. It also provided an opportunity for young athletes to interact with college players.
"It was a great opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the achievements of women in sports," said head coach Kimani Jackson.
York helped facilitate basketball drills and also had the opportunity to meet and speak with Roneeka Hodges, a former 10-year professional basketball player and current assistant coach for the New York Liberty, a successful basketball player and coach.
