David Williams joins York College as assistant women's basketball coach ahead of the 2022-23 season.

"It is a privilege and an honor to join York College women’s basketball as assistant coach. As a native of South Jamaica, Queens, it is my role to inspire and educate people of all ages about the opportunities that are available with a collegiate degree.” - said Williams

No stranger to CUNY, Williams attended John Jay College, where Williams played in 23 games to contribute to the Bloodhounds’ 2007-08 CUNYAC Men’s Basketball Championship in just his first season.  As a senior, Williams averaged a career-high 5.0 points, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals with 15 starts in 22 games played.  During his three seasons (2007-10) at John Jay, Williams logged minutes in 56 games and made 17 starts before graduating with his bachelor’s of arts in 2010.

"Coach Williams brings high energy and invaluable basketball knowledge to the York women’s basketball program.  We are excited to continue building a winning culture together at York,” said head women's basketball coach Kimani Jackson.

From 2016-19, Williams led Merrick Academy Charter School as head coach for the elementary school boys basketball team.

Prior to enrolling at John Jay, Williams studied at Lincoln University from 2005-07.

"Through my role, I am afforded the ability to provide mentorship that will benefit the women’s basketball program both on and off of the court. I have acquired two goals that all collegiate student-athletes dream of by receiving my diploma and winning a championship. I look forward to sharing my experiences academically and athletically to elevate York athletics,” added Williams.

In 2019, Williams achieved his master’s degree in school counseling from Long Island University (Brooklyn).  Since 2020, Williams has built his career as a school counselor.

Hailing from Jamaica, Queens, Williams is a graduate of Martin Luther King Jr. High School,  where he was a member of the varsity basketball team from 2002-05.
