@yorkcardinals Women’s Basketball celebrates Senior Day with epic showdown against Medgar Evers

York College fought Medgar Evers College to the brink

JAMAICA, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball culminated their season with a home battle against the Medgar Evers College Cougars (3-21, 2-12 CUNYAC). After an intense 40 minutes of battle, the Cougars emerged victorious 48-47 inside York College Gymnasium. 

Prior to tip-off, Amaniya Aiken (2025-26) and Keanna Clouden (2025-26) were celebrated for their dedication to York Athletics with the annual Senior Day Ceremony.

How it Happened
  • Baskets from Beautifull Earth and Amaniya Aiken gave York an early 4-0 lead. The Cougars responded with a pair of triples by Enphani Huskey to go up by two (6-4) at the 5:58 mark of the first quarter.
  • Level at six, Medgar racked off the following eight points to take an eight-point edge (14-6).
  • Clawing back, the Cardinals closed out the frame with an 8-2 burst, trimming the deficit to two (16-14). 
    Aiken continued the momentum with three straight layups, giving York a 20-16 advantage with 7:21 on the clock.
  • No team pulled away the rest of the half, as the final 6:25 of action produced four ties, with another Aiken layup leveling the score at 26 before intermission.  
  • A trio of free throws from Aiken got the Cardinals back in the lead (31-28) at the 7:28 mark.
  • The York defense clamped up, holding the Cougars to two points in the following 6:13, extending the edge to eight (38-30).
  • Earth capped off the run with two layups.
  • After two free throws by Jennifer Metra, Aiken canned a jumper with 0:14 showing on the clock, keeping the eight-point margin (40-32) heading into the fourth quarter. 
  • Medgar would not go down without a fight, utilizing an 8-0 charge to knot the score up at 40 with 4:45 remaining.
  • The Cardinals finally got on the board with Aiken's free throw at 4:30.
  • Metra followed with a jumper to give the Cougars their first lead (42-41) since the 26-24 in the first half.
  • Trailing by two (43-41), Earth went coast to coast after a steal, leveling the score at 43.
  • Medgar responded immediately with a jumper from Moutiatou Djibring, making the score 45-43 with 2:18 showing on the clock.
  • Behind 46-43, the frenzy did not end, as Aiken and Earth's quickfire strike put York on top 47-46 at 0:33.
  • With one final chance, Metra banked home a layup as time expired to give the Cougars a 48-47 victory. 
Leading the Cardinals
  • Aiken netted a game-best 23 points to go along with 12 rebounds (7 offensive), sealing her seventh double-double of the season.
  • Earth almost notched a triple-double, totaling career-highs in points (20) and steals (10) to go along with eight rebounds. Additionally, Earth (3) and Aiken (2) produced all of the team's assists.
  • Tyla Hooks added four points (4-of-5 FT), 14 rebounds, and four steals.
  • Chamiya Foy had a defensive presence with a team-leading 17 rebounds (seven offensive). 
For Medgar Evers
  • Djibring recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 25 rebounds.
  • Metra totaled 11 points, 11 rebounds, and a team-best five steals.
  • Huskey contributed eight points and six rebounds.
  • Bryanna Merger chipped in with three steals, and Jada Lambert dished out two assists.
Inside the Box Score
York shot 26 percent (19-of-73) from the floor, canned one triple, and shot 40 percent (8-of-20) from the charity stripe. Medgar connected on 17.8 percent (16-of-90) of its field goals, sank a trio of three-pointers, and swished home 13-of-23 foul shots. In counting stats, the Cougars accumulated more rebounds (73-64), both squads tallied five assists, and the Cardinals had the edge in steals (16-14). Digging deeper, Medgar recorded more points off turnovers and second-chance points, while York had the advantage in paint points (32-20) and fast-break points (20-3). 

The Cardinals (0-19) graduate a two-member class of Amaniya Aiken (2025-26) and Keanna Clouden (2025-26) as they look to build up their program under first-year head coach Emmett Howell.
