--- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball is primed to take the court Saturday (Feb. 22) as the No. 5 seed in a return to CUNYAC Championship play for the first time since the 2015-16 season.  The Cardinals will travel to Manhattan for a first-round matchup at Baruch College to take on the Bearcats starting at 1 p.m. inside ARC Arena. 

Third-year head coach Anastasia Bitis has York (10-14, 7-7 CUNYAC) entering postseason play as owners of three-straight wins, tied for the CUNYAC's longest-current winning streak.  The Cardinals concluded the regular season with the program's highest win total (overall and conference) since the 2010-11 campaign. Baruch went 1-4 across its final-five games to end the regular season with a 14-9 record and 8-6 in the league standings.  York recently captured a 61-47 home win (Feb. 10) to split the season series after Baruch slipped past the Cardinals on its home court with a 59-56 victory on January 11. The two teams meet in the postseason for the first time since the 2016 tournament, when York advanced to the semifinals with a 72-63 win at Baruch.   

Overall, York presents a defense that leads the CUNYAC in rebounds per game (50.3), defensive rebounds per game (33.5), field goal percentage defense (30.4) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (23.6).  The Cardinals also rank near the top of the league in defense, surrendering an average of 56.3 points per game (2nd). York produces 16.8 offensive rebounds per game (2nd) while holding the opposition to 41.5 rebounds per game (3rd) for an 8.8 rebounding margin (2nd).  The Cardinals also block an average of 3.54 shots per game (4th).

On the national scene, York ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in rebound margin (36th), rebounds per game (6th), rebounds (4th), defensive rebounds per game (3rd), offensive rebounds per game (31st), field goal percentage defense (6th) and 3-point field goal defense (9th) and scoring defense (66th).

The Cardinals score an average of 56.5 points per contest, and are led by sophomore center Mac-Dege Dessources, who leads the team in scoring at 13.9 points per game.  Dessources is also the CUNYAC's top rebounder (13.3 per game) and shot blocker (1.9 per game).  She also ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in rebounds (4th, 318), rebounds per game (5th), offensive rebounds per game (13th, 5.0), defensive rebounds per game (15th, 8.3), double-doubles (12th, 14th), blocked shots (58th, 45), blocked shots per game (70th) and field goal percentage (86th, 49.1).

The winner of Saturday's first-round tilt will play again Wednesday (Feb. 26) in the CUNYAC semifinals at the top-seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs (19-6, 14-0 CUNYAC).  From there, the Cardinals will play host for the title game next Friday (Feb. 28) at 5:30 p.m. inside York College Gymnasium.
