Swimming Drops Season Opener to Baruch

JAMAICA, N.Y.—The York College men's and women's swimming teams each dropped its 2016-17 opener to Baruch College on Monday night.
 
The women lost by a score of 108-63, while the men were defeated 107-64.
 
The meet was also the debut of new Head Coach Samantha Oyola.
 
York was led by Javier Velasquez who was third in the men's 100-meter freestyle (1:08.39).  Santusha Kanhai was also third in the women's 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:48.38. 
 
The Bearcats featured a deep squad and took first in every event on the night.  The two wins improved the men's team's record to 2-2, while the women are now 1-3.
 
York has a quick turnaround as they travel to the College of New Rochelle for a double dual meet with New Rochelle and Queens College.
