JAMAICA, N.Y. – The York men's and women's swim teams combined to win seven events, but lost to Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC matchup. The men lost 109-69 and the women lost, 91-64.
Travis Henry and
Alfred Clark led the men's side, each winning two events. Henry dominated the 100-meter backstroke as he finished with a time of 1:11.55—12 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Henry also won in the 50-meter freestyle for the third straight meet, touching the wall with a time of 26.74.
Clark showed off his endurance in the 800-meter free, finishing with an impressive time of 11:30.45—34 seconds better than the next participant. Clark's next event was much closer, as he went on to win the 100-meter butterfly by four seconds, hitting the wall at 1:12.51.
Marissa Buchanan on the women's team started her night by running away with the 800-meter freestyle, winning by 52 seconds with a time of 13:09.31. Buchanan also led the way in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:23.70. Kerry-Ann Bailey also had an impressive night, winning the 50-meter freestyle (33.00) and placing second in the 100-meter freestyle (1:16.76).
The loss drops the York women's record to 0-7 overall, 0-3 CUNYAC. The Brooklyn women improve to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in CUNYAC. The York men fall to 0-6, 0-2 CUNYAC, while Brooklyn's men improve to 1-2 overall, 1-0 in the CUNYAC.
Both Cardinal teams will be back in action after the new year when they take on the College of Staten Island at home on January 8th, 2015 at 6:00 pm.
