Sebastian Gomez claimed the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week selection for matches played Mar. 31-April. 6. This award is the second CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week honor and his fourth career conference award.
Helping clinch the #6 seed for the Cardinals, Gomez totaled 22 kills (.133 percentage), nine digs, and seven aces in a 2-0 week. Triumphing over John Jay College (Apr. 1) in five sets, the freshman smacked down 17 kills and contributed eight digs and two block assists. Overpowering Medgar Evers College (Apr. 3), Gomez added five kills and a career-best five aces.
Playing in 79 sets across 2 matches, the Flushing native has produced 339 kills on 778 attacks (.226 percentage), 31 aces, 124 digs, and 15 total blocks. Among York players, he ranks first in points (380), kills, total attacks, attack percentage, and aces, and places second in digs. In comparison to CUNYAC competitors, Gomez paces the conference in points/set (4.81) and kills/set (4.29). In the Division III stratosphere, he is 8th in kills/set and 11th in points/set.
