@yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball sweeps Medgar Evers for CUNYAC triumph

York College continues its three-match home stretch Thursday (Mar. 19) with battle against Brooklyn College

JAMAICA, NY-- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball opened a three-match homestand Tuesday evening with a dominant performance, sweeping the Medgar Evers College Cougars (0–12, 0–5 CUNYAC) by the final count of 25-10, 25-16, and 25-17 to secure a convincing CUNYAC victory inside York College Gymnasium.

First Set Breakdown 
  • After a close start, York seized control with a 20–6 run to build a commanding lead. A key moment in the surge came during an eight-serve stretch by George Molina, who delivered three service aces to push the score to 23-8. 
  • Brian Kim set the tone early, tallying two of his nine assists in the frame, with both assists going to Alexis Ramirez for a pair of kills to close out the set and secure a commanding 25-10 victory for York.
Second Set Breakdown 
  • The Cougars jumped out to a 3-1 lead before York responded with five of the next six points, highlighted by a pair of service aces from Shady Kalil.
  • The teams continued to trade leads until York broke open a 12–all tie with a decisive 10–2 run. During that stretch, Bryan Godette took control at the service line, delivering four aces in a five-point serving run to give York the momentum.
  • Ramirez once again closed out the set with a pair of kills to cement a 25-16 win.
Third Set Breakdown 
  • Medgar Evers opened the set with a slight 2–1 edge, but the Cardinals quickly responded
  • Four combined kills by Molina, Ramirez, and Godette facilitated a 7-3 spurt for the Cardinals (8-5).
  • York continued to build momentum as Kim delivered a service ace to extend the advantage to 12–7.
  • Holding a 13–9 lead, the Cardinals seized full control with a decisive 6–0 run, pushing the score to 19–9. Jesus Gomez played a key role during that surge, recording two aces.
  • Medgar Evers attempted a late push, cutting the deficit to 21–14 after an ace from Chrisnel Nicolas, but it wasn't enough to shift the momentum.
  • York stayed composed and closed out the set, 25–17, capped by a kill from Ramirez.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Ramirez paced York with 16 points, nailing down 14 kills and serving two aces while scooping six digs.
  • Godette has his best outing as a Cardinal, powering down nine kills, serving a team-high four aces, recording a pair of solo blocks, and contributing defensively with a match-leading eight digs.  
  • Kim's career-high 26 assists directed the offense.
  • Molina (3) and Kalil (3) combined for six aces.  
  • Keron Antoine chipped in with four kills.
  • Enmanuel Guzman Urena provided a defensive presence with five digs.
For Medgar Evers
  • Christian Owolabi paced the Cougars with six kills, four digs, and one solo block
  • Nicholas produced two kills and a team-best two aces.
  • Nkosi Fraser set his teammates up five times, added three digs, and served an ace.
Inside the Box Score
York generated 67 attacks and hit at a season-high .239 rate. Medgar Evers swung 47 times and recorded a -.128 attack percentage. The Cardinals also had an advantage in kills (30-9), aces (17-3), assists (28-8), digs (20-16), and solo blocks (3-1).
