@yorkcardinals Men’s Volleyball showcases fight on Senior Day against CCNY

York College hits the road Saturday (Mar. 28) to compete at the Bard College tri-match against Lehman College and the host Raptors

JAMAICA, NY-- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's volleyball capped its 2026 home slate Tuesday evening with a gritty performance in a CUNYAC showdown against the City College of New York Beavers (6-11, 1-5 CUNYAC), battling through tight sets before falling 25–22, 25–21, 19-25, and 25–20 inside York College Gymnasium.

Prior to the opening serve, seniors Bryan Godette (2026), George Molina (2024–26), and Shady Kalil (2026) were honored in the program's annual Senior Day Ceremony, recognizing their dedication and contributions to York Athletics.

First Set Breakdown 
  • CCNY came out strong, opening the match with a commanding 7-0 run.
  • After a serving error by the Beavers, York responded as Alexis Ramirez delivered four consecutive service points to cut the deficit to 7-5. 
  • York continued to battle back, using a 5-2 surge-highlighted by three kills from Godette-to even the score at 10-all. 
  • However, CCNY regained control, going on a decisive 10-3 run to build a 20-13 advantage. 
  • Facing set point at 24-17, York showed resilience as Godette sparked a late push with three service points during a 5–0 run. 
  • Despite the rally, CCNY held on to secure the opening set with a narrow three-point win.
Second Set Breakdown 
  • Trading points throughout, Brian Kim served a pair of aces to push York in front, 3-1.
  • Down 7-6, York manufactured an 8-3 rally, fueled by four kills from Ramirez, to build a 14-9 advantage.
  • CCNY answered with a strong surge, scoring 13 of the next 18 points to take control at 22-19.
  • York continued to fight, cutting the deficit to three following a kill by Godette, but CCNY capitalized late to secure the set by four points.
Third Set Breakdown 
  • York seized early momentum in the third set, building a pair of four-point leads to take control. 
  • CCNY responded by scoring four of the next five points to trim the deficit to 7-6. 
  • Undeterred, York answered with a strong 9-3 run to create separation and extend its lead to 18-11.
  • The Beavers mounted a late push with a 5-1 stretch to close within 19–16, but York maintained its composure. 
  • Attacking at an efficient .360 clip in the frame, York closed out the set with a 6–3 rally to secure the win.
Fourth Set Breakdown 
  • Playing from behind early, York mounted a 3-1 spurt to close the gap to 5-4. 
  • CCNY replied by regaining control, building a pair of four-point leads and using a 5–1 surge to go ahead 10-5. 
  • York fought back with a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to 12–11, but the Beavers answered decisively with four straight points to stretch their lead to 16–11. 
  • After a timeout, York made one final push, scoring five of the next six points to get within four at 24-20. 
  • However, CCNY held firm, sealing the set and the match on a York attacking error.
Leading the Cardinals
  • Godette paced York with a career-high 17 kills and nine digs. He also added three aces to his stat line. 
  • Ramirez provided an offensive and defensive threat with 10 kills, eight digs, and one solo block. 
  • Kim orchestrated the attack with 29 assists, matched Godette's three-ace total, and scooped up five digs as well. 
  • Jesus Gomez (3) and Keron Antoine (2) combined for five digs.
  • Enmanuel Guzman Urena contributed defensively with six digs, and George Molina contributed four kills and another Cardinal solo block.
For CCNY
  • Nana Boateng powered home eight kills, served four aces, and scooped up 10 digs.
  • Amir Nabiyev smacked down a match-best 10 kills to go along with two aces and six digs. 
  • Moustafa Elsabagh also narrowly missed a double-double with nine kills and 10 digs.
  • Brandon Green authored eight kills and two aces, rounding out the squad's double-digit scorers. 
  • Adrian Campos Ponce set up his teammates 37 times and served a match-high five aces.
Inside the Box Score
York generated 33 kills on 102 attempts, finishing with a superior .167 attack percentage. CCNY powered home 42 kills on 112 swings for a .143 rate. In a tight battle, the Beavers managed to edge the Cardinals in aces (14-7), assists (40-31), and digs (41-34), while York recorded more total kills (5-3).
