@yorkcardinals Softball matches up against Sarah Lawrence

York College continues its road slate Friday (Apr. 11) with a CUNYAC showdown against Brooklyn College

BOX SCORE 1 BELLEROSE, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball took the field Saturday for a non-conference road matchup against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (1-12), falling 11-0 in game one before rain suspended a game-two classic with York leading 10-8 in the bottom of the fourth.

Game 1: Sarah Lawrence 11, York 0 (5 Inn.)
  • York threatened in the opening frame, manufacturing three base runners on Sarah Lawrence's Shirin Pechefsky (W, 1-7: 5 IP,5 BB, 6 SO), but could not strike first. Samantha Panameno (0-for-1, 2 BB) worked a one-out walk but was thrown out trying to steal second. Alyssa De La Rosa then reached on an error and advanced to scoring position. A second consecutive Gryphon miscue placed Jeana Clemons at first and moved De La Rosa to third before Michelle Mancuso popped out to end the threat.
  • The Gryphons' offense exploded early, scoring six runs in the first inning. Isabella Boissonnault (2-for-3, 3 R, RBI, SB) broke the ice with an RBI single to score Kyra Johnsen for the game-winning run. With the bases loaded, York starter Simranjit Kaur (L, 0-1: 4 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, 8 BB, 3 SO) issued four straight free passes as Sarah Lawrence pushed its lead to five.
  • With the bases loaded in the second, Jordyn Benda reached on a fielding error that scored three to extend the advantage to nine.
  • York again placed runners on base but couldn't cash in with back-to-back walks garnered by Madison Plaza (0-for-1, 2 BB) and Panameno in the third inning. A double play doomed the Cardinals, squashing their scoring opportunity.
After Isabella Zuniga drove in Sarah Lawrence's first run in the third, G. Hudson delivered an RBI triple to settle the scoring.
York created opportunities in both the fourth and fifth frames but was unable to push past second base.
Kaur found a rhythm in the fourth, retiring Sarah Lawrence's side.
