BROOKLYNÂ ---Â (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com)Â York College softball closed out its 2026 CUNYAC schedule Monday afternoon against the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (15-23, 6-4 CUNYAC), posting a season-high offensive output against a conference opponent but coming up short in an 18-5 opener before a 16-0 defeat in game two at Brooklyn College Field.
Game 1: Brooklyn 18, York 5 (5 Inn.)
- Melina Abreu (1-for-2, RBI, BB, 4 SB) got the scoring started with an RBI single to bring home Madison Keir and give York the early lead in the opening frame. Brooklyn starter Kureshma Dhanraj (W, 7-12: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 5 SO) settled in and retired the next two Cardinals to strand a pair of runners in scoring position.
- Brooklyn responded with eight runs in the first inning, compiling four base hits and capitalizing on three wild pitches, two walks, three hit batters, and two York errors. Lianna Gonzalez (2-for-2, 3 R, RBI, 3 SB) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in Victoria Elderbaum for what proved to be the game-winning run against York hurler Simranjit Kaur (L, 0-7: 4.0 IP, 15 H, 11 ER, 7 BB, 0 SO), making it a 6-1 contest. RBI singles from Sage Bernstein (4-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, SB) and Addy Cook later in the frame closed out the inning's scoring.
- The Bulldogs slapped a pair of RBI singles in the second stanza to extend its lead.
- York manufactured a run in the third inning as Jaymie Mateo (3-for-3, 2 R, BB, 3 SB) singled, stole second, and came around to score on a double steal with Abreu, trimming the deficit. Two batters later, Amaniya Aiken delivered a two-out single to load the bases, but Dhanraj got Madison Plaza to strike out swinging, stranding three.
- Brooklyn broke the game open in the third inning, plating seven runs on four RBI singles and three bases-loaded walks to put the contest out of reach.
- With two outs in the fourth, Mateo singled to drive in Malaysia Robinson, then stole second and came around to score on a two-base error.
- In the fourth inning, Hailey Johnston notched a two-out double to drive in Brooklyn's final run.
- York added its final run in the fifth as Jaylene Riley drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a groundout by Faith Howes, marking the team's highest run total against a CUNYAC opponent this season.
Game 2: Brooklyn 16, York 0 (5 Inn.)
- York threatened in the first inning as Samantha Panameno (1-for-1, 2 SB) drew a leadoff walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a bunt, but Brooklyn starter Jessica Bowe (W, 8-7: 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 7 SO) worked out of the jam with a flyout and groundout to keep York off the scoreboard.
- Brooklyn erupted for eight runs in the opening inning against Alyssa De La Rosa (L, 0-3: 1.0 IP, 1 H, 10 ER, 16 BB), drawing 11 walks and benefiting from a hit batter, while an RBI single by Haylee Burleigh helped the Bulldogs take an 8-0 lead.
- Five consecutive walks to open Brooklyn's second inning led to two runs, ending the outing for De La Rosa.
- In the fourth inning, Brooklyn scored on back-to-back bases-loaded walks drawn by Abreu before Trinity Guadalupe (1-for-1, GS HR) capped the six-run frame three batters later with a grand slam to clear the bases.
- York threatened in the fourth, placing three runners on base but coming up empty due to aggressive baserunning. Mateo reached on a passed ball after striking out but was later caught stealing, while Abreu tripled but was thrown out at the plate. Riley also reached on a passed ball and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but York was ultimately held scoreless.
- Abreu pitched a clean fourth to register York's first scoreless inning of the day. Â
