Sebastian Gomez was recognized Tuesday as the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week Honorable Mention selection for matches played Feb. 10-16.
Gomez shined in a non-conference tri-match (Feb. 15) versus Bryn Athyn College and Purchase College, authoring 39 kills on a stout .351 rate and contributing 12 digs. Against Purchase, Gomez spiked down 15 kills on a sizzling .500 attack percentage. Defeating the Bryn Athyn in a five-set thriller, Gomez accumulated a match-high 28 points, powering home a career-best 24 kills (.271 percentage) and serving three aces. The versatile outside hitter also contributed defensively with a career-high nine digs.
In 19 sets across five matches, the Flushing native has tallied 84 kills on 173 attacks (.312 percentage), 11 aces, 28 digs, and three solo blocks. Gomez leads York in points (98), kills, total attacks, attack percentage, and aces. Matching up against the CUNYAC, Gomez leads the league in points/set (5.16) and kills/set (4.42), and ranks fifth in hitting percentage.
