Alicia Gumbs was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Divisions II/III Honorable Mention selection for games played January 6-12. This distinction is her seventh-career MBWA weekly honor and the second of this campaign.
Adding to her impressive offensive season, averaging 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game in two conference matchups for the Cardinals last week. In a home encounter against John Jay College (Jan. 8), the shifty guard scored 22 points (8-of-20 FG, 6-of-8 FT), and recorded four rebounds and two steals. At Medgar Evers College (Jan. 10), the senior netted 26 points and hauled in eight rebounds. In nine contests this campaign, Gumbs is averaging 21.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 3.3 steals, and 2.4 assists per game. Offensively, the 1x All-Star has scored over 60% of the team's points.
According to the CUNYAC hierarchy, the Queens native ranks highly in points (4th), steals (4th), and minutes (39.1, 2nd) per game. On a per-game basis, Gumbs places fifth in minutes, 15th in points, and is tied for 25th in steals among all Division III players.
