David Heyliger, Jr. was recognized Monday as the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week Honorable Mention Selection for games played Mar. 4-10. This is the fourth career men's volleyball CUNYAC weekly honor for Heyliger, Jr., who claimed Men's Rookie of the Week laurels in 2020 and a Player of the Week distinction in 2022.
Helping out on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, the outside hitter spearheaded York to its first victory of the season. Facing Hunter College (Mar. 5), he finished with a team-best six kills, 28 total attacks, and eight digs in the competitive three-set affair. Triumphing over Medgar Evers College in four sets, the big man smacked down 17 kills on a fantastic .306 rate and scooped up a match-high 12 digs. Over 10 matches this campaign, the U.S. Virgin Islands native leads the team in kills (97), total attacks (302), hitting percentage (.063), aces (14), blocks (5), and digs (64). In the CUNYAC hierarchy, Heyliger, Jr. ranks seventh in points (116.5) and kills. On a per-set basis, he leaps to third in kills per set (3.03) and fourth in points per set (3.63).
