Alicia Gumbs was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Divisions II-III Honorable Mention selection for games played January 29-February 4. This distinction is her fourth-career MBWA weekly honor and the third of this campaign.
Gumbs finalized another week where she was the main offensive threat for the Cardinals to average 21.0 points, 11.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks while draining 75 percent (21-of-28) from the free-throw line. Facing City College of New York (Jan. 30), Gumbs poured in 26 points (7-of-16 FG, 11-of-14 FT) to go along with eight rebounds and a team-high four assists. After a 12-point effort at home to Baruch College (Feb. 2), the Queens native contributed 25 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and two steals away to the Lehman College Lightning (Feb. 3).
In 12 contests this season, the speedy guard is averaging 22.1 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game.
Among the CUNYAC leaders, the third-year veteran is first in minutes (39.7), fourth in points, fourth in assists, and seventh in rebounds per game. According to the NCAA Division III Statistical Rankings Summary, Gumbs leads the nation in minutes per game and places 11th in points per contest.
