FLUSHING, NY --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's outdoor track & field garnered two honors Tuesday as freshmen
Zaria Neptune and
Peta-Gay Hunter were recognized when the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) announced its 2023 All-Star awards.
Neptune became a two-time All-Star following three medals and a 22-point performance at the CUNYAC Outdoor Championships from Icahn Stadium. The Elmont native shined in the 100-meter dash as her late burst catapulted her to a personal record of 13.70, good for second place at the meet and fourth on the CUNYAC Outdoor Performance List. Moving onto the 200-meter event, Neptune totaled two points after a fifth place finish. Additionally, Neptune spearheaded two third place results in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, tallying six points in both events. Competing in four of York's seven meets, Neptune had the second-best conference time in the 200-meter dash (28.61) The Big Hurt (Apr. 1).
Hunter was recognized as the program's second-consecutive CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award winner, following
Jaylene Coye's distinction in 2022. This Sportsmanship honor adds to the Sportsmanship award she won during the Indoor Track & Field season. The Brooklyn native competed in four meets, and medaled in both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays with third place finishes at the CUNYAC Outdoor Championships
""I am very proud of Peta-Gay. She is an example of the best that our program has to offer. She is a true leader not only on the track , but off as well. She understands that hard work shows desire, but sweat shows commitment."-said head coach Jamal Wilkerson
