BELLEROSE, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College softball completed their six-game homestand Wednesday afternoon with a non-conference doubleheader against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (2-9), claiming a 16-15 thriller in the opener before darkness suspended game two with Yeshiva leading 13-6 in the top of the third. The game one triumph marked York's first victory since a 16-15 decision over Brooklyn College dating back to April 25, 2019.

Game 1: York 16, Yeshiva 15 

How it Happened

• Yeshiva opened up a 2-0 lead in the first inning buoyed by Kyra Appel RBI triple to right center. 
• Knotted at two in the second, Lisseny Florentino (1-for-4, 4 RBI, R) cracked a two-run single to double York's advantage (4-2) as part of a four-run frame to go up 5-2.
• The Maccabees sent eight batters up in the top of the third, mustering one run on a ground out by Chana Fischer. 
• On the strength of a two-RBI single by Kayla Cagan (3-for-6, 3 RBI, 3 R, SB), Yeshiva took a 6-5 edge in the fourth frame. 
• Shrewd baserunning on two hits and three errors helped York regain the 8-6 lead in the home portion of the fourth. 
• Yeshiva evened the score at eight in the fifth inning after Appel brought home two runs. 
• Threatening with runners in the bottom of half of the stanza with runners in scoring position, Florentino reached on a fielder's choice to score two runs, giving York a 10-8 advantage.
• The Cardinals pushed their lead to 12-9 after six innings with Shamonie Miller's (1-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 SB) run-scoring single to advance Tyler Dazey from third base. 
• Trailing 12-9 in the seventh, Yeshiva posted six runs (zero earned) to jump ahead by three (15-12).
• York immediately replied with two runs as Sofia Soric (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, 2 SB) singled and stole second before Nayelly Rojas (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 R, HR, BB)  laced a home run to center to make it a one-score game. 
• Following the round tripper, six-straight batters reached base off Yeshiva's Alexis Leibowitz (L, 2-8; 6.1 IP, 10 H, 8 BB, 5 ER, 6 SO), with Miller getting hit by the pitch to score Madison Plaza (1-for-2, 2 R, 3 BB, SB) for the game-winning run. 
• Soric (W, 1-3; 7 IP, 8 H, 13 BB, 8 ER, 4 SO) pitched York to victory, fanning a career-high four batters and went the distance for the fourth time this season.  

Box Score Breakdown

• The Cardinals outplayed Yeshiva in hits (10-8) and stolen bases (10-9) as the Maccabees drew 13 walks compared to the Cardinals' eight.
• York finished with season-highs in hits, RBIs (13), home runs (1), stolen bases and walks.
• Yeshiva stranded 15 runners on base as York left eight on.
