@yorkcardinals’ Rojas recognized as CUNYAC Women’s Swimming Sportsmanship Award honoree

York College’s Nayelly Rojas has been named the program’s first-ever CUNYAC Women’s Swimming Sportsmanship Award winner

FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College sophomore Nayelly Rojas has been recognized by the CUNYAC as the 2022-23 Women's Swimming Sportsmanship Award selection, announced Tuesday by league officials.

Rojas is the program's first-ever CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award winner as York has now placed six members on the Sportsmanship Team since 2014-15.

As a resident of Brooklyn, Rojas swam in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races at the CUNYAC Championship meet, combining for an improvement of 6.58 between the two events.

During a rebuilding year in which the program competed with a small roster, including at times, being York's lone competitor at the women's meet, Rojas swam in all four meets, and continued to lead by example while showing the utmost respect for her teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and staff.

"Nayelly is deserving of the Sportsmanship Award due to her dedication to the York swim team and her commitment to improvement," said co-head coach Stephanie Taibe.

Rojas, who is also a member of York's cross country, soccer, softball, tennis and track & field programs, was previously selected to the 2022 CUNYAC Women's Tennis Sportsmanship Team.
