@yorkcardinals’ Gumbs claims MBWA Divisions II-III Women’s Basketball Honorable Mention spot

York College guard Alicia Gumbs averaged 28.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two games last week

NEW YORK --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College women's basketball guard Alicia Gumbs was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Divisions II-III Honorable Mention selection for games played December 11-17. This distinction is Gumbs' second-career MBWA weekly honor, as she received an honorable mention slot during the 2021-22 season.

Lighting up the stat sheet, Gumbs averaged 28.0 points, 13.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals in two home games last week. Against Lehman College (Dec. 11), Gumbs paced the squad with a team-best 27 points, six assists and four steals, to go along with a career-high 18 boards for her second-career double-double.  Facing Western Connecticut State University (Dec. 16), Gumbs netted an efficient 29 points (8-of-18 FG, 3-of-4 3FG, 10-of-14 FT) and recorded a team-high eight rebounds and three dimes. 

In seven contests this season, the Queens native is averaging 22.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Orchestrating York's offense, Gumbs has scored 59.6 percent of the team's points and has accumulated 62.2 percent of the team's assists. 

Nationally, Gumbs leads Division III women's basketball in minutes per game, ranks 11th in points per contest, tied for 44th in free throws made (45) and 72nd in defensive rebounds per game (6.9).  In the CUNYAC hierarchy, the three-year veteran leads the league in minutes (40.0) and ranks among the leaders in points per game (3rd), free-throw percentage (5th, 68.2), made field goals (6th, 53), assists per game (7th), rebounds per game (8th) and steals per game (T-17th)
