York College freshman outside hitter/middle blocker David Heyliger, Jr. was named the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Player of the Week for games played January 31-February 6, announced Monday by league officials. The Player of the Week distinction is the program's first since 2019, when Kevin Campbell earned the honor for the reporting period of January 28-February 3.
In the season opener against Purchase College (Feb. 2) at home, Heyliger, Jr. led York with 14 points, nailing down 12 kills on 28 swings. He also added one ace, two block assists and four digs to the team's efforts during York's first game since March 10, 2020.
Hailing from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, the 2020 CUNYAC First-Team All-Star ranks among the league leaders in points per set (T-3rd, 3.5), points (T-4th, 12), hitting percentage (10th, .143), kills per set (T-2nd, 3.0) and kills (T-4th, 12).
