Ellma Hodzic led the team in scoring in two of three games and was recognized Tuesday by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) as a Women's Basketball Divisions II-III Honorable Mention selection for games played January 24-30.
Hodzic averaged 21.6 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 1.0 blocks while shooting 48 percent (24-of-50) from the field, 45 percent (9-of-20) from three-point territory and 88.8 percent (8-of-9) from the free-throw line in a 2-1 week for the Cardinals. She scored a season-high 26 points (8-of-15 FG, 4-of-8 3PT FG), and recorded seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in a heartbreaking 88-83 overtime loss at John Jay College (Jan. 25). Hodzic then scored a game-high 19 points (3-of-7 3PT FG) and added five rebounds, four steals and three blocks in leading York to 62-58 victory at Lehman College (Jan. 28). Hodzic led York in scoring for the third time in four games, pouring in 20 points (8-of-16 FG, 2-of-5 3FG, 2-of-2 FT) to go along with 11 rebounds, seven assists (one turnover) and three steals in a dominating 69-37 win at CCNY (Jan. 30) for her fourth-career double-double (third of season).
In eight games played, The Queens native is averaging 17.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.9 blocks per contest. Hodzic is shooting at a rate of 36.2 percent (50-of-138) from the field, 25.8 percent (17-of-66) from outside the arc and 83.9 percent (26-of-31) from the free-throw line. She ranks among the CUNYAC leaders in points per game (2nd), assists per game (T-6th), blocks per game (2nd), steals per game (T-5th), rebounds per game (8th), defensive rebounds per game (7th, 6.6), field goal percentage (16th), free-throw percentage (2nd) and three-point field goal percentage (3rd). Hodzic ranks among the NCAA Division III leaders in free-throw percentage (38th), minutes played per game (6th, 39.0), points per game (60th), blocks per game (63rd) and steals per game (69th).
