FLUSHING, NY --- (www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College freshman outside hitter David Heyliger, Jr. was recognized as the CUNYAC Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, released Monday by league officials for matches played February 24-March 1.  Heyliger, Jr. is York's first CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selection since the 2016 season, when Jonathan Liao claimed the top rookie spot for the March 14-20 reporting week.  

In York's lone match, Heyliger, Jr. amassed a career-high 28 points and 21 kills to go with four blocks, three aces and eight digs in leading the Cardinals to a 5-set victory (25-15, 19-25, 22-25, 25-19, 15-11) at Yeshiva University (Feb. 26).  Heyliger, Jr. has produced 10+ points in five matches this season and notched his second-straight match with double-digit kills.

The St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands native ranks among the CUNYAC leaders in points per set (4th, 3.50), aces per set (2nd, 0.58) and kills per set (7th, 2.69).  In the latest NCAA Division III Statistical Rankings Summary, Heyliger, Jr. is ranked 18th in the nation in aces per set, 29th in attacks per set (8.61) and 71st in points per set.  

Heyliger, Jr. and the Cardinals (3-6, 0-2 CUNYAC) travel to Brooklyn on Tuesday (Mar. 3) for a CUNYAC showdown with the Brooklyn College Bulldogs (5-8, 0-0 CUNYAC) starting at 7 p.m. inside West Quad Gymnasium.
