BROOKLYN --- (
www.YORKATHLETICS.com) York College men's and women's swimming competed Saturday in a tri-meet hosted by Brooklyn College in their final tune-up ahead of next week's 2020 CUNYAC Swimming Championships hosted by Lehman College. The Cardinal men closed out the regular season with their first win since the 2017-18 season, topping the Bard College Raptors with a 56-32 decision, and fell to the host Bulldogs, 84-10, inside West Quad Pool. York dropped a 71-17 women's decision to Brooklyn and 73-18 to Bard.
The Cardinals were paced
Alex Winter, who finished with York's top men's finish of the day in second place with the team's top time of 1:04.65 in the 100-yard breaststroke race. York scored a pair of third-place showing in the relay events with
Christopher Mendez, Winter,
Jeremy Sapeg and
Anthony Jordan combining to finish the 200-yard medley relay in 2:23.46. Winter then swam the fourth leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay with Jordan,
Jamaar Watson and Ti-Juan Boothe to finish .56 ahead of Bard to secure the win over the Raptors. The Cardinals also set a top time in the 100-yard backstroke race as
Jaquan Eleazard clocked in at 1:17.15 to place fourth. York registered third-place finishes by Boothe (500-yard freestyle, 1:05.43), Sapeg (100-yard freestyle, 31.80) and Watson (100-yard backstroke, 8:25.34) in their respective events.
On the women's side,
Che'Rel Haywood set York's top time in the 100-yard butterfly event with a first-place time of 1:06.85. Haywood captured a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke race in 1:17.28, and also combined with
Mauricia Blake,
Kaithlyn Taylor and
Anita Okoye in the 200-yard medley relay to place third in 2:35.13. York set a season-best time in the 200-yard freestyle event with a third-place finish in a time of 2:27.66 by Blake, Okoye,
Mary Cuevas and Taylor.
The Cardinals return to action on Friday (Jan. 31) for day one of the 2020 CUNYAC Championships (Jan. 31-Feb. 2) hosted by Lehman College inside APEX Pool starting at 4:30 p.m.
