JAMAICA, N.Y.— The York College women's swim team won five events against John Jay College on Monday but it would still not be enough, as the Bloodhounds topped the Cardinals, 95-75, at the York College Natatorium.

Newcomer Briggiti Cruz, who was competing her first meet of the year, had an impressive debut, winning both the 200-meter individual medley (3:02.68) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:21.28).  Both times were the fastest for a York swimmer this season.

Marissa Buchanan was a winner in the 100-meter freestyle, finishing with a time of 1:15.53 and Alexandra Castro touched the wall first in the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:38.52.  The relay team of Buchanan, Cruz, Castro and Paula Davis Smith were also victorious in the 200-meter medley relay (2:35.42).

However, the numerous victories still put York a little short, as John Jay won the other six events, and also swept the 50-meter freestyle.

York will be back at it on November 20 with a road contest against Lehman College at 6 p.m.
