Softball Puts up 20 Runs in Victory over New Rochelle

BOX SCORE
BELLEROSE, N.Y.- The York College softball team plated a season-high 20 runs and defeated the College of New Rochelle, 20-3, in a non-conference single game on Thursday afternoon.

The game was never in doubt as York put the game out of reach in the bottom of the first, scoring 12 runs.  Most of the offensive output was due in part to some wild pitching on the part of New Rochelle pitcher Tanika Charles.  York walked eight times in the inning, with five runs being forced in on those walks.  When the Cardinals weren't walking around the bases, they did get run-scoring hits from Thessaly Belizario and Chyla Guevara

York would score four more in the second and another four in third, with walks once again accounting for many of the base runners.  In the third, Michelle Delon knocked home two runs with a single.

Deleon also earned the win on the mound, allowing just one hit and striking out two, to even up her record at 3-3 on the season.  She also drove in three runs at the plate.

Guevara led the way with the bat for York, scoring a season-high three runs and collecting a season-high four RBIs.  Karen Werner scored four runs and also stole home in the second inning.

With the win, York improves to 5-10, while New Rochelle drops to 0-18.  The Cardinals will return to action on Saturday with a key conference game at Brooklyn College.  First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
