Team Effort Results in Four-set Win for Men’s Volleyball over CCNY

JAMAICA N.Y. — The York College men's volleyball team used a balanced attack—with several players contributing big numbers—to defeat the City College of New York 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20) in a City University of New York  Athletic Conference contest on Thursday night.
 
Bryan Williams finished with a match-high 18 kills and 12 digs, while hitting .419 to lead York.  Avinash Thomas filled up the stat sheet, as he recorded 14 kills (.320 hitting percentage), 21 assists, five digs and two aces and Edner Geffrard had 12 kills with a .364 hitting percentage.  York also had strong contributions from Knudson Andre (7 kills) and Leszek Stankiewicz (8 kills, 5 digs, 3 solo blocks).  Setter Jaquan DeJesus finished with 29 assists and libero Paramivir Singh had 9 digs.  
 
York picked up a pair of close victories in the first and second sets to take control of the match.  In the third set, CCNY got off to a 9-2 lead and were able to hold off a York rally to force the fourth set.  In the fourth, a 6-2 run gave the Cardinals a 14-8 advantage, which catapulted them to the victory. 
 
CCNY was led by Brandon Reeves, who had a team-high 12 kills.  Nicholas Siriban added eight kills, eight digs and three aces. 
 
The Cardinals improves to 16-12 overall and 8-2 in CUNYAC play, while the Beavers drops to 8-16 overall and 4-7 in the CUNYAC. 
 
York will have a quick turnaround as they head to the Kean University Invitational tomorrow. The Cardinals will have their work cut out for them because they will be facing three nationally-ranked teams.
