Women’s Basketball Season Comes to End at CUNYAC Quarterfinals

JAMAICA, N.Y.— The 2013-14 York College women's basketball season came to an end on Sunday in the quarterfinals of the CUNY Athletic Conference Championships.  York fell to the top-seeded College of Staten Island by a score of 98-48.
 
The Dolphins dominated action, with all five starters eclipsing double figures in points.  CSI was also lights out from the field, shooting 53.7 percent and 48 percent from three-point range, while holding York to just 23 percent shooting and forcing 28 turnovers.
 
Megan Myhre led the way with 20 points, while Nikki Fabozzi recorded 18 points and 11 boards.  Victoria Gallinaro finished with 17 points, seven assists and three steals. 
 
The Dolphins were never really threatened, as they quickly opened the game with a 12-0 advantage in the game's opening minutes.  Staten Island continually extended its advantage from there, leading by as many as 37 in the first half and 53 in the second half.
 
Despite the loss, York had some impressive individual performances.  Nia Rene had one of her best games of the year, scoring 15 points, grabbing 17 boards and nabbing five steals.  Shauncia McClendon also had a double-double, with 16 points and 11 boards.  Stayce Kay Muirhead scored seven points and had 13 rebounds.
 
The Cardinals finish the season with a record of 3-23.  The Dolphins (20-6) move on to the semifinals on Wednesday.
