BOX SCORE
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Sophomore setter Avinash Thomas recorded a career-high 53 assists and 15 digs and senior opposite Bryan Williams matched a career-high with 23 kills and hit .559, as York defeated the City College of New York (26-28, 26-24, 25-18, 22-25, 15-9) in Harlem Tuesday night.

The match was extremely close with two sets decided by two points and another by just three points.  CCNY fought off a set point in the opening set to take an early lead.  But York did the same in the second set, fighting off a set point before eventually evening up the score.

York won the third set convincingly but the Beavers rallied from an early 10-5 deficit in the fourth to force a fifth set.  In the fifth set, York jumped out to a 6-1 lead, benefitting from a number of CCNY hitting errors.  York then held on for the win, finishing off the match with Williams' 23rd kill.

Also chipping in for York in the hard-fought win was Leszek Stankiewicz, who had a game-high six blocks to go along with 14 kills (.462) and three digs.  Freshman Randy Adams had another big outing, collecting 15 Kills and hitting .424.

CCNY was led by Nicholas Siriban, Derell Williams, and Brian Yik Lim, all of whom collected double digit kills, with Siriban leading the charge with 18 of the team's total 56 kills on the night.

This win improves York's record to 8-4 on the year and 3-1 CUNYAC. CCNY falls to 3-10 on the year (1-3 CUNYAC). York's next game will be a home doubleheader, against John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the College of Mount Saint Vincent, on Thursday February 20th at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. respectively.
