First Half Struggles Lead to York’s Loss to John Jay College

BOX SCORE
JAMAICA, N.Y. - The York College women's basketball team fell to John Jay College Friday evening, 69-38.

After a close 8-4 start in the opening six minutes of the game, three big baskets from John Jay, capped off by a huge three-point field-goal from Terri Chu, put them up by 11 points.

John Jay would go into the half up, 45-9, led by Amanda Jimenez's 12 points and six rebounds.

The Cardinals, who struggled to find the basket in the first half, as evidenced by three large scoring droughts which resulted in just nine first-half points for the team, would come out strong to start the second.

Scoring six unanswered points in the opening minutes of the second half, and also going on another scoring run late in the game, this time with seven unanswered points, York would score 20 more points than they did in the previous half. However their efforts were not enough to overcome the lead John Jay built in the first.

Stayce Kay Muirhead played a good game on both ends, coming up with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals in the game. Angelika Ruggiano would also contribute eight points and four assists.

John Jay's Jamecia Forsythe had a game-high 14 rebounds and 16 points. Amanda Jimenez also had a double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, as well as three assists. Tamara Jones finished the game one point shy of a double-double, with nine points and 11 rebounds.

John Jay improves to 7-13 on the year, 5-7 CUNYAC, while York falls to 2-17, 1-10 CUNYAC. York's next game will be a road contest on February 3rd against CCNY at 5 p.m.
