NEW YORK, N.Y.— The York College women's basketball team struggled offensively on Friday night, and as a result, lost to Hunter College, 76-39, in a CUNY Athletic Conference contest.
The Hawks held York to just 20.9 percent shooting from the field on the night. York also did not do itself any favors by shooting 40.7 percent from the free throw line and committing 32 turnovers. Hunter took advantage of the mistakes and scored 26 points off turnovers.
Hunter only shot 34.8 percent from the field but dominated on the boards, outrebounding York, 40-29. They also had 20 offensive boards, which resulted in 12 second-chance points.
In the loss, York got a team-high eight points from
Angelika Ruggiano.
Shauncia McClendon added seven points and eight boards.
Aimee Aikens and
Kiera Burns each had six points.
Hunter was led by Kristen Markoe, who finished with an impressive line of 19 points and 19 rebounds, while also adding seven steals. Nicole Lenard added 18 points and eight boards.
Hunter improves to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in CUNYAC play. York drops to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the CUNYAC.
