JAMAICA, N.Y. — The York College men's volleyball team disposed of Lehman College in the quarterfinal round of the CUNY Athletic Conference Men's Volleyball Championships by a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-18) on Tuesday night.
With the win, York advances to the semifinal round, which will be held at the City College of New York at 4:00 p.m on Friday, April 12. It is the fifth straight season they have reached the semifinals. The Cardinals, who are the #3 seed in the tournament, will battle second-seeded Hunter College, who knocked off John Jay College in the quarterfinal round. Should they win, they would play in the finals later that night at 8:00 p.m.
The Cardinals had a solid all-around effort to defeat Lehman for the third time this season. York hit .191 on the night with 10.5 blocks, while holding the Lightning to a .041 hitting percentage on the evening.
Leszek Stankiewicz and
Edner Geffrard led the way with nine kills apiece. Geffrard added four blocks on defense and Stankiewicz chipped in three.
Avinash Thomas finished with six kills and ten assists and
Jhonnattan Fernandez had six kills and five digs.
Sebastien Francois also contributed on offense with seven kills. Libero
Terrence Sutton was a force on defense, recording a match-high 14 digs.
