Dunn, Frederick Power Softball to Doubleheader Sweep of New Rochelle on Senior Day

QUEENS, N.Y— Junior Danielle Dunn went a combined 5-for-7 with a grand slam and eight RBIs and senior Joviette Frederick, who was playing in her final York home game, slammed a home run in each game, while tallying a combined six RBIs to lead the York College softball team to wins of 20-2 and 15-6 over the College of New Rochelle, Thursday afternoon.

In game one, York blew it open early, with three runs in the first and 11 in the second. In the second, the Cardinals only had four hits in the frame, benefitting from five New Rochelle errors, while adding a few timely hits.  After the first two runners of the inning reached base on errors, Frederick brought them both home with a three-run blast.  Later in the inning, freshman Karen Werner added a two-run homer and Dunn drove in two with single up the middle. 

Kimberly Barnes earned the win, going four innings, without allowing an earned run and striking out three batters.  Dunn finished game one 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored and Frederick was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and three runs.  Werner, Geneva Faulk and senior Meriem Alahiane all scored three runs as well.  

In the nightcap, the Cardinals brought the big bats once again.  In the bottom of the first, Frederick connected on her second homer of the day and fourth of the season, with a two-run shot.  Geneva Faulk was the next batter and she also followed with a home run to make it 3-0.  York continued to pour it on, scoring six runs in the frame and eight more in the second inning.  Dunn accounted for half the York offense in the second inning with a grand slam. 

Dunn was 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBIs in game two and Fauk was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.  Alahiane again scored three runs and also earned the victory on the mound. 

York is now 7-22, while New Rochelle drops to 3-24.
