York Softball Has No Answer for First-Place Staten Island

BELLEROSE, N.Y— The College of Staten Island softball team has not taken a loss in CUNY Athletic Conference play and they showed why in a doubleheader sweep of the York College softball team on Tuesday afternoon at Padavan-Preller Field. The Dolphins won by scores of 10-2 and 15-0.
The Dolphins (15-8, 8-0 CUNYAC) were dominant at the plate and on the mound. CSI pitchers Victoria Procopio and Brittany Smith combined to shut down the York bats in both games. York was held to just one hit in game one and was no-hit in the nightcap.
CSI had two big outbursts in each game, both coming in the second inning. The Dolphins plated seven runs in the second inning of game one and eight in the top of the second of game two. Procopio led the way at the plate as well in game one, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Christina Tufano went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs in game two.
York's lone bright spot came in the last inning of game one.
Evelyn Florentino singled home two runs with a liner to right field to get the Cardinals on the scoreboard.
York will travel to SUNY-Cobleskill on Friday for a doubleheader at 3:00 p.m.
