Men’s Volleyball Comes Up Short on Day Two of Johnson & Wales Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The York College men's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on day two of the Johnson & Wales Tournament on Saturday morning.  York lost to Daniel Webster College, 3-1 (25-20, 13-25, 25-19, 25-21) and Wentworth Institute of Technology, 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-21).

Daniel Webster was able to take the match thanks to its efficient play in the first and third sets.  The Eagles hit .391 in the first and .310 in the third set, which gave them the edge over York.  The second set was all Cardinals as they hit .222, compared to -.174 for Daniel Webster.  But York struggled in the fourth set, committing 11 hitting errors, giving the Eagles the match.
 
Emmanuel Geffrard and Leszek Stankiewicz each led York with ten kills apiece.  Edner Geffrard finished with nine kills. Jon Peter Sardea had 20 assists and Kenan Kajtezovic added 14.
 
Wentworth Recap
The Cardinals struggled in the second match of the day, as they hit just .111 and allowed 13 service aces.  Wentworth also hit an impressive .293 on the day, including hitting at a .524 clip in the first set. 
 
York was led by Emmanuel Geffrard again, who added nine kills and five digs.  Stankiewicz finished with eight kills, five digs and three blocks.  Sebastien Francois, who was named to the All-Tournament Team for the weekend, slammed six kills.
 
The Cardinals drop to 17-11 on the season. They will host Lehman College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
