Geffrard, Stankiewicz lead York to Pair of Victories at Sarah Lawrence Tri-Match

BRONXVILLE, N.Y.— Freshman
Emmanuel Geffrard and junior
Leszek Stankiewicz each recorded 19 kills combined in a pair of victories Saturday afternoon. York defeated host Sarah Lawrence College 3-0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-16) in the morning and then followed with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-16) triumph over The Cooper Union in the afternoon. The pair of wins for York (10-4) gave the Cardinals double-digit victories less than one month into the start of the 2013 season.
The young Geffrard continued to show his versatility this season, as he recorded nine kills over the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons and ten kills against Cooper Union, while chipping in a pair of blocks against Sarah Lawrence and three aces and seven digs over The Cooper Union. Stankiewicz had identical kill numbers to Geffrard in each match, while turning away two attempts against Sarah Lawrence and three versus The Cooper Union.
Maximo Bonilla also had a big day against the Gryphons, slamming eight kills in just nine attempts (.889), while adding four blocks. Setter
Jon Peter Sardea finished the match with a season-high 35 assists.
Against The Cooper Union,
Avinash Thomas was also a major factor, recording eight kills and 12 assists.
Kenan Kajtezovic, who returned to York for the first time after a year layoff, came up big on defense with six blocks.
York, winners of three straight, will look to continue its winning ways when they visit Medgar Evers College on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
