Men’s Volleyball Cruises to Win Over John Jay

BOX SCORE
NEW YORK, NY— The York College men's volleyball team had little trouble disposing of John Jay in its first CUNY Athletic Conference match of the season, defeating the Bloodhounds by a score of 3-0 (25-14, 25-9, 25-21).

Paced by a match-high ten kills by Sebastien Francois, York hit .321 collectively, while the Bloodhounds hit just .031 on the night.  Kevin Mora had an impressive night, slamming eight kills with a hitting percentage of .545 and Leszek Stankiewicz had four kills and hit .571.  Freshman Emmanuel Geffrard recorded eight kills—the ninth time this season he recorded at least that amount---while also adding seven digs and serving up six aces, as he contributed to 15 points on the night.  Libero Terrence Sutton was strong on defense, leading all players with nine digs.

The first set was tight early on but a 7-2 run by York turned a two-point advantage to a 15-8 lead.  The Cardinals were not threatened from there.  The second set was never in doubt, with the Cardinals jumping out to a 12- 3 lead and never looking back.  The third set was a bit more competitive, with the Bloodhounds rallying late to make the score close, but a Geffrard kill would finish off the match.

York is now 8-4, 1-0 in the CUNYAC, while John Jay is 1-2, 0-2 in CUNYAC play.  The Cardinals will visit Sarah Lawrence for a tri-match with Sarah Lawrence and Cooper Union on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
