York Tops Keuka, Sarah Lawrence at Home Tri-Match; Cardinals Now 6-1 on the Season

JAMAICA, N.Y. – The York College men's volleyball team picked up two more wins on Saturday during a tri-match held at York College, running its win streak to six. The Cardinals defeated Keuka College 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-19) in the morning before disposing of Sarah Lawrence College in the afternoon by a score of 3-0 (25-17, 25-12, 25-9).

After playing in hard-fought match against Keuka the night before, the Cardinals had a much easier go of things the second time around. York dominated the first set, hitting .588—its highest percentage for a single set so far this season. York strong defense also played a part as they recorded 34 digs and held the Storm to negative hitting percentages in the first and second sets.
Freshman Emmanuel Geffard finished with a match-high ten kills and junior
Maximo Bonilla added eight kills. Junior
Leszek Stankiewicz had six kills and a match-high eight digs and sophomore setter
Jon Peter Sardea led all players with 30 assists and eight digs. Keuka was led by Connor Hinman, who had ten kills.
The Storm, who are playing in their first NCAA season, rebounded to defeat Sarah Lawrence in the second match of the tri-match and earned their first win in school history. Their record now stands at 1-2 on the season.

York also had little trouble with the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence. The Cardinals hit .377 as a team for the match, which is its best percentage through seven games this season. Their 11 aces were also a season-high.
York had many contributors once again, but it was freshman
Avinash Thomas who led the way, slamming a team-high 8 kills and hitting .700. Stankiewicz had another impressive performance, recording seven kills, hitting .750 and serving up two aces.
Sebastien Francois finished with a season-high seven kills and Sardea recorded 22 assists.
Sarah Lawrence saw an outstanding performance from Harrison Holmes wasted, as he led all players with 13 kills. The Gryphons fall to 0-2 on the season.
After playing seven games this week, York will have a well-deserved week off and will return to action next Saturday when they open up conference play with a CUNY Athletic Conference tri-match held at Lehman College. York will face Brooklyn College at 11:00 a.m. and Lehman at 3:00 p.m.
