BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2
JAMAICA, N.Y.—  The York College softball team crushed the College of New Rochelle in a doubleheader, winning 8-2 and 18-1 in a pair of games Sunday afternoon.

In game one, York used a pair of three-run innings and a strong effort from pitcher Michelle DeLeon to get the win.  With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the third, York pushed three runs across, thanks in part to a two-run single by Carmela Napolitano

Later, with York holding a 5-1 lead in the fifth inning, York plated three more runs.  DeLeon had an RBI single in the inning and later scored on a wild pitch.  She would go the distance on the mound, scattering seven hits and striking out ten batters.

Game two was highlighted by a nine-run second inning, in which the first nine batters of the inning reached base.  A two-run double by Krystina Rivera and a two-run single by Vanessa Rivera were the big knocks in the inning.

Freshman pitcher Kimberly Barnes pitched well, tossing five innings and striking out four batters, while allowing just two hits.  Napolitano was 3-4 in game two with two runs scored and two RBIs to lead York at the plate.

York improves to 5-7 with the wins. The Cardinals will return to action on Thursday with a doubleheader at Purchase College beginning at 3:30 p.m.
