BOX SCORE
BRONX, N.Y.— Junior
Bryan Williams registered 16 kills (.289) and had seven digs, as the York College men's volleyball team continued its hot play with a 3-1 (25-17, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19) victory over rival Lehman College on Thursday night in the Bronx.
With the win, York is now 17-11, 9-2 in the CUNY Athletic Conference. The Cardinals are 12-3 in their last 15 matches dating back to February 16, and sit a half-game out of second place in the conference behind Baruch College.
Also contributing for York in the win was seven-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selection
Edner Geffrard, who continued his outstanding play with 13 kills and seven blocks.
Tobi Awopetu had five kills (.500) and two blocks and
Sebastien Francois added six kills (.556).
Terrence Sutton led the way defensively with a match-high 15 digs, while setter
Glenn Vargas had 21 assists.
Both teams were nearly equal in kills and Lehman held a 9-2 advantage in service aces, but the difference in the match was the miscues by the Lightning. Lehman committed 32 hitting errors— 11 of which were caused by York blocks. The Lightning also gave away 11 points because of service errors.
The Lightning were led by Brian Francisco who had 12 kills and by Orlando Vargas who had nine kills and hit .600.
York will return to action on Tuesday, when they host Sarah Lawrence at 7:00 p.m.
