Staten Island Holds off Late York Rally

BOX SCORE
JAMAICA, NY—Trailing by 18 points midway though the second half, the York College women's basketball team mounted a furious rally but could not get over the hump and fell to the College of Staten Island 68-60 on Monday night.

It looked like Staten Island was going to cruise to an easy victory after holding an 50-32 lead with 9:50 to play.  However, a 12-0 run by York, fueled by five points from Shadae Rice, helped cut the lead to just six points (50-44) with 4:52 to play.

The Dolphins bent but didn't break.  After letting the lead drop to just two possessions, the Dolphins responded with a three-pointer to go back up by nine points.   York kept fighting and closed to within six points three more times but CSI was able to hit free throws in the final minutes and keep York from moving ahead.

Rice had a big game on senior night for the Cardinals, as she scored a game-high 26 points.  Joanna Josama added 12 points and nine boards.

CSI (8-11, 5-4 CUNYAC) was led by Olivia Tierno who netted a team-high 20 points and Nikki Fabozzi who registered 14 points.

York drops to 3-18, 2-7 in the CUNYAC and will host Brooklyn College on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.   Fans in attendance will have an opportunity to win a pair of Jet Blue tickets.  So be sure to be there.  Admission is free.
