Men’s Volleyball Loses Season Opener to NJCU

BOX SCORE

JERSEY CITY, N.J.— The York College men's volleyball team dropped its season-opening match to NJCU, losing by a score of 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-25) on Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals hitting percentage was a big factor in the loss as they hit -.063 on the night and managed just 16 kills.  Meanwhile NJCU recorded 35 kills and hit .253 on the evening.

Despite the poor numbers, York had a chance to take the second set but came a bit short.  The two teams traded points for nearly the entire set but with the score tied at 23-23, a pair of hitting errors gave NJCU the set.  The Gothic Knights carried that momentum into third set, winning easily to take the match.

The Gothic Knights were led by Besmir Arsiani, who had a match-high 14 kills, and by Kenny Lisk and Patryk Rusznica who added nine kills apiece.

York's Edner Geffrard had a team-high six kills and seven digs and Jhonnattan Fernandez had five blocks in the loss.

York will visit NYU-Polytechnic on Monday.
