STATEN ISLAND, NY— The York College softball team wrapped up the conference portion of its schedule Saturday afternoon, losing a pair of games to Baruch College by scores of 10-0 and 15-7.

Game one was all Baruch as Bearcats pitcher Nicole Flint tossed six shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 14 batters.   The Lady Cardinals lone hit came off the bat of Thessaly Belizario who doubled in the fourth inning.

After scoring a run in the first, Baruch put up crooked numbers from the third inning on, plating two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings and three in the sixth inning.  The Bearcats were led by Ashley Brandow who was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

The bats came alive for York in the nightcap but the seven runs would not be enough for the win.   The Lady Cardinals got on the board in the first after Michelle Deleon walked with the bases loaded.  In the fourth inning, York pushed across three more runs, thanks to a an RBI double by Aileen Abad, a run-scoring single by Phylicia Harrison and a ground out, which brought home the third run.  York also plated three more runs in the sixth thanks to a bases-clearing triple off the bat of Krystina Rivera.

The Bearcats bats were too powerful though, particulary in the third inning, where they scored eight runs.  It was Brandow who once against provided the spark offensively, going 3-for-5 with two runs and five RBIs.  Melanie Pellegrino was 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBIs.

Baruch now stands at 15-17, 12-2 in the CUNYAC, while York is 5-23, 2-12 in the CUNYAC.

York will close out the 2011 season with a make-up game against the College of New Rochelle on Friday.  The place and time has yet to be determined.
